Now a senior, Rachel Durbin prefers to lead by her actions.
“Mostly by example,” said Durbin, “or encouraging others to do their best and work hard at what they’re doing.”
Durbin works harder than most. In fact, she has played four sports in her high school career earning 14 varsity letters. She was an All-Conference performer on the basketball team helping the Rockets to four straight appearances in the regional tournament. She is also an All-Conference performer in track and cross-country, as well as, the starting catcher on the softball team. Her perseverance through each of those seasons has helped her grow.
“It taught me to do my hardest and do what I know how to do and not worry about others. Just mostly, not give up what I want to do.”
Durbin will play basketball at Westminster College. Her hard work in the classroom is a big reason for that opportunity. Durbin has a 3.9 grade point average. She is a member of National Honor Society, marching band, jazz band, and concert band. She is editor of the yearbook and participates in Future Teachers of America, the school newspaper, and youth ministry.
“If I didn’t do my best then I wouldn’t be playing sports. To play sports, I just had to finish all of my school work and get good grades.”
Lowellville’s Rachel Durbin is our Student Athlete of the Week.
