Midway through his senior year, Billy Price has already recorded the longest shot put and second longest discus throw in the entire state.
“Shot and discus is a technical thing, a technical sport,” said Price. “It’s an art form. It’s a roller coaster ride with ups and downs. Once you finally get a hold of it with the right technique and the right coaches like I have, with Coach Koniowsky, it makes it a lot easier.”
Price will certainly challenge for a state title in both events, and he has the ability to continue throwing in college. During the indoor track season, Price was a state finalist two straight years, finishing runner-up twice, but he’s also a star on the football field. The Fitch senior is a three-year letter winner, two-time All-Ohio selection and the state’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year. He was a member of the Big 22 and 5 Blocks of Granite and will play at Ohio State next year.
“I really truly believe that, being a Buckeye, you live life the correct way. You’re respectful. You represent yourself well. You carry yourself well. You represent your family and the area you are from with the utmost respect.”
The full ride to Columbus would not have been possible without making his mark in the classroom, too. Price has a 3.6 grade point average and plans to pursue a degree in business.
“You still have to work hard to get that B or A in the class. You have to put the time in, just like throwing, just like lifting. You really have to put the time in to get the fruits of the labor.”
