Student Athlete: Jamie DiDomenico

Jamie DiDomenico

For Jamie DiDomenico, playing tennis a family affair.

“My mom played for a while,” says the Mooney senior.  “My older sister Jaclyn played, and so does my younger sister.  We always played when we were little, and my mom used to always bring us to Tippy and we would play every night.”

All that practice paid off.  DiDomenico is a three-time district finalist, and was a state finalist last season.  This year, she helped lead her team to a perfect 20-0 record, the first perfect season in Cardinals history.

“I didn’t even know we were the first in history to do it, but I’m glad we are.”

And surprisingly, tennis is not DiDomenico’s favorite sport.

“Basketball,” she says intently.  “Mentally, I like it better because I’m with a team.  I’m in charge of my team being a point guard, and I just like being in control.”

On the court, DiDomenico is a three year letterwinner, and two year captain.  She was a 3rd team All-Northeast Ohio selection, while averaging 11 points, five assists, and three steals a game.

“Tennis and basketball are really different sports.  So playing tennis during basketball season and basketball during tennis season is really hard, having practice for both everyday.  So, I balance it out by doing the opposite sport once or twice a week.  But, it’s a big transition.”

A transition which she executes flawlessly; Just like her work in the classroom, where DiDomenico has a 4.28 grade point average.

“It’s hard to really balance them, but I think during basketball and tennis season, I actually get more accomplished with my academics then during the offseason, because I have a time schedule, I have to get things done at a certain point, and I have more discipline.
