The Ursuline Softball team has its sights set on defending last year’s District Championship. The Irish return most of last year’s starters, including our Student Athlete of the Week…a 2-sport standout whose resume in the classroom is truly second to none.
Anny Carroll is a 4 year starter and captain for both the Ursuline soccer and softball teams. She is one major reason why the Irish are favorites to repeat as District Champions. Carroll is a leader on and off field. She spends her free time volunteering at church, and keeps busy in school as a 4-year writer for the student newspaper. She is also a member of the Science Club, Yearbook Committee, Student Council, and president of the Spanish Club.
“Being a leader to the other girls, like having them look up to you is really… when they come up to you and say you’re a great leader and i really look up to you. that’s like one of the best feelings you could have,” Carroll said.
She is just as competitive in the classroom. Her 4.47 GPA ranks first at Ursuline, and is the highest we’ve seen in the area this year.
“i really wanted to be top of the class,” she added. I really worked hard to keep my grades up so that I can be at the top. It’s really difficult here because you have to work.”
And that she does. Carroll dedicates more than five hours a night studying. She has already been accepted to the University of Akron where she plans to study Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics.
“I know I have better time management when I play sports because I know when I get home, I can’t goof around or play on my phone, because I have to get my work done…if I want to sleep.”
