Howland firefighters respond to house fire

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) — Before assisting at a fatal house fire at Pegotty Drive N.E., Howland Township Firefighters put out flames at another house where a man was rescued by neighbors.

Howland Fire Chief James Pantalone said when first responders arrived around 9 p.m. at the Westover Drive house, neighbors had already pulled the homeowner to safety.

Emergency workers transported David Nycum to the Akron Burn Unit for smoke inhalation injuries.

The fire appears to have started in the back of the home, which didn’t have smoke detectors.
