Youngstown police identify body

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown police are investigating the discovery of a dead body in the downtown area late Wednesday.

James Robert Syster, 55, of Youngstown, was found just after 10 a man who was walking in a wooded area near Front and Hazel streets when he came across Syster’s body lying in a puddle.

According to police reports, the man who found the body did not have a cell phone and asked a woman walking her dog to call police.

“We are still talking to some witnesses, and we are waiting for a determination from the coroner’s office,” said Capt. Brad Blackburn. “We don’t know at this point if it is a homicide or just a natural cause of death.”

Investigators said the victim looked like he had been in a fight and had a swollen black and blue eye and cuts on his face.
