Student Athlete: R.J. Leon

R.J. Leon loves baseball.

“Ever since I was a kid I’ve been playing baseball. You could say I came out of the womb with a baseball bat in my hand,” he joked.

He is a 4-year starter with the Warriors, and a First-Team All-County selection. But baseball isn’t his only passion.

Leon is also 3-year starter for the football team, and a big reason the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs each of the those three seasons. Next year, he’ll be a two sport athlete in college, playing baseball and punting for Waynesburg University.

“That was always my dream to go to college to play ball, and football along with it, that’s like a dream come true,” he said.

Leon is also a leader off the field. He is class president, vice-president of Student Council, a 4.0 student, and class Valedictorian.

“Oh, it means the world to me. It means more to me to be Valedictorian than any other sports accolade I have. I had a lot of fun in high school, and now I sit back and think what are they going to think about me when I’m gone. And I just think I hope that kids around the community can look up to me as a role model in some way, because I think ‘ve done it the right way,” Leon said.
