Veterans meet to discuss care in Struthers

Pillich holds meeting to help determine veterans needs

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) — Veteran issues were front and center today in Struthers.

State Representative Connie Pillich met with Youngstown-area veterans at the Amvets Post to discuss critical issues facing the military community.

Among the things discussed were the recently revealed challenges at VA hospitals, the application deadline for the Ohio veteran’s bonus, and legislation that would guarantee unemployment compensation for military spouses.

For Pillich, who is herself a U.S. Air Force veteran, taking care of vets is everyone’s job.

“You know, long ago before everybody went on active duty, they signed on the dotted line and offered to give everything that they have secure in the promise that the nation would be there for them when it was their time of need,” Pillich said.

Pillich said it is important that lawmakers hear first-hand from those who have served what their needs are.
