BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A local police dog has an added level of protection tonight.

This is hero, he is a K9 officer for Beaver Township police.

He just received a bullet proof vest from Vested Interest in K9s.

It was awarded to him through a grant campaign.

His handler Officer Chris Albert told us the vest was specifically made for hero.

“The vest themselves, its bullet and stab resistant. It cost right around $2,000 and its custom fit and custom made for the dog. Part of the application was getting his measurements sent into the company. It’s about a 12 week turnaround,” said Beaver Township Police Officer Chris Albert.

The vest is only used during high risk situations.
