YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — There are still some tickets left for the Rod Stewart concert at the Covelli Centre, but they are going fast.
Covelli Centre officials said ticket sales were brisk all day Friday, thanks in part to people who arrived at the box office early in the morning to get in line and wait. Even though the concert wasn’t expected to sell out in just one day, some fans were not willing to take any chances on getting left out.
“I had tickets back in the early 70s, 1970, 71, to see Rod Stewart in Cleveland and his concert got canceled. I am going to make sure I see him now,” said Shirley Matyi of Austintown.
“Been wanting to see him for a long, long time. It is basically a birthday present for me, for my husband,” said Shirley Klink of Liberty.
“Well, I wanted some good tickets and sometimes when you go online, you end up without tickets, so I wanted to come here early and sit and wait,” said Shirley Moritz of Austintown.
But it was not just the ladies who are anxious to see the rock legend.
“I have always been a fan of Rod Stewart and I like his music. And it’s convenient. You don’t have to go to Cleveland or Pittsburgh to travel to see Rod Stewart. It’s right down here in Youngstown,” said John Demetruk of Girard.
Covelli Centre officials said just under 6,000 seats will be available for the show. Stewart, 69, will perform at the downtown Youngstown venue on Aug. 24.
