Mercer residents still cleaning up after storm

Mercer County storm damage

MERCER COUNTY, Pa. (WYTV) — More than 350 residents remained without power Thursday evening after Wednesday evening’s storms, according to Penn Power.

High winds left a path of destruction across the county and left branches, trees and power lines down, with the Stoneboro and Greenville areas being hit the hardest.

“Lots of damage in the area. Unbelievable. You drive up and down the road and everybody has some damage of some kind,” said Ed Iddings of Mercer.

Many lost power from 6 p.m. Wednesday to early afternoon on Thursday. Quiet country towns were filled with the loud sounds of generators until the lights came back on.

Penn Power crews were out in force all day Thursday trying to fix the lines. Some poles were leaning so bad  afterwards they had to be held in place.

Dave Kress, owner of Kress Auto Center, said his auto repair business is finally getting back to normal thanks to power being restored.

“We lost about three hours this morning, which wasn’t too bad. They did pretty good getting it back on so we could get back to work,” Kress said.

In Stoneboro, along Poole Road, everyone was left in the dark. Robert Poole and his grandson Brad were dusting off the generator.

“Well, we can’t get the garage door up for one thing. We can’t get any water. Water is the biggest problem. I got cattle that need to drink,” Robert Poole said.
