WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – On Monday, a new agency run by Youngstown State University graphic and interactive design students was popping up.
Youngstown Design Works opened its inaugural Pop-Up Design Shop in downtown Warren. This shop was created to help businesses of all sizes and specialties with a variety of creative needs at an affordable rate, while giving YSU students real-world experience before graduating.
“It is a student-run graphic and interactive design agency intended to support local, regional small businesses, non-profits, start-ups and sole proprietors with entry level pricing for premium design services,” said YSU assistant professor and YDW Director R.J. Thompson.
Thompson said people around the Valley could start seeing similar shops in their communities, including Austintown, Boardman and Youngstown.
“Ideally speaking, if the pop-up is successful in Warren, we will replicate it in other major commerce centers in the region,” he said.
So far, 10 companies and organizations have signed up through the Design Works website to request services.
The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday at 124 N. Park Ave. in downtown Warren.
Since opening a few months ago, YDW students have been involved in two major projects, including the re-branding of the Salem Public Library.
In the fall, Youngsgtown Design Works will move into new offices in Smith Hall on the YSU campus.
