LISBON, Ohio (WYTV) — A Columbiana County jury has reached a verdict in a murder trial.
Christopher Miller, 36, of Salem, was found guilty on just one of the three charges filed against him. The jury on Wednesday convicted him of tampering with evidence. Prosecutors said he cleaned up blood evidence from his girlfriend’s car.
However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the more serious charges of murder and aggravated murder. Miller was on trial for the bludgeoning death of Matthew Bailey last fall.
Bailey’s body was found in a remote area off Hartley Road in Butler Township in late October. An autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma to his head and body.
Police said Bailey was considered a “person of interest” in the shooting death of local farmer and businessman Gerald Klusch, who disappeared in September of 2011 and was found dead several weeks later.
Although Bailey was never charged in Klusch’s murder, his family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him.
