Hummer takes out headstones in cemetery

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WYTV) – One person was taken to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Liberty Thursday afternoon.

Raymond Lewis Jr., 58, of Girard, was driving a Hummer east on Churchill Road when he hit a guardrail and went through the fence of Church Hill Cemetery, near the intersection of Belmont Avenue.

The vehicle took out at least eight headstones before coming to a stop. The crash happened about 3 p.m.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Lewis claims he had a medical condition prior to the crash and he was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for observation.

No charges have yet been filed and the crash still is under investigation.
