Ohio Supreme Court accepts Belinky’s resignation

Judge Mark Belinky

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WYTV) – The Ohio Supreme Court announced that it accepted former Mahoning County Probate Court Judge Mark Belinky’s resignation from practicing law in Ohio Thursday, according to a list of announcements from the court Thursday.

The announcement noted that disciplinary action is pending in the case, after Belinky pleaded guilty May 8 to failing to report contributions, expenses and loans from his 2008 election campaign.

A probe by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the FBI and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office into Belinky’s actions started in late 2013 and involved searches of both the Probate Court offices and Belinky’s home in Boardman.

In a letter submitted to Ohio Gov. John Kasich March 14, Belinky said, “Please be advised that the undersigned is the Judge of the Mahoning County Probate Court. I hereby submit my resignation as Judge of the Court effective this date.”

Belinky said he made the decision to resign in the best interest of his family and himself.
