BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) — A crash in December claimed the life of Cardinal Mooney High School graduate Caitlin Yager, but friends and family members are hoping to keep her spirit alive through a scholarship program.
Yager, who was attending Marietta College at the time of her death, was a runner on the college cross country team. She was majoring in culture, religion and history and had been looking forward to studying in Russia during the spring semester. She then planned to attend law school.
Mike and Greg DeLost, along with Yager’s brother, Matt, collaborated with Second Sole and Newton Running to organize a race in her honor. The inaugural “Run for Caitlin,” an 8K race and 3K fun walk is set for July 26.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. at Canfield High School. The 8K will have chip timing, with awards given to the overall male and female winners in the 8K, as well as age group awards.
A basket raffle is also planned. Race registration forms and sponsor forms can be downloaded here.
All proceeds of the event will benefit Run for Caitlin Inc., a nonprofit corporation in Ohio that will award scholarships for grade school students who would like to attend Cardinal Mooney High School.
