YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – “My Town…Your Town…Youngstown” is the theme this year for the annual summer day camp hosted by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society.
Every day this week, kids will explore the city by taking field trips to several area landmarks. On Monday, they were at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center in downtown Youngstown, where they became pioneers traveling to their new home in Ohio.
Organizers promise the kids will learn 10,000 years of history in just five days.
“I think they get a little more history, information of course. But I think that connection to the past, it’s not boring, old facts or dusty things they don’t care about. History really comes to life,” Traci Manning of the MVHS said.
On Tuesday, the kids will visit Lanterman’s Mill at Mill Creek MetroParks and will witness an immigration ceremony at the District Court of Appeals.
Later this week, they will visit the Youngstown Museum of Industry and Labor, the Arms Museum, the DeYor Performing Arts Center and the Oh Wow! Children’s Museum.
