Archeological ‘dig’ conducted at Boardman Park

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The past doesn’t have to be confined to textbooks. That’s the lesson area grade-schoolers got Friday at a simulated archeological dig in Boardman Park.

Throughout the day, the students learned first-hand how to find, dig up and preserve the artifacts that were buried in the park.

Co-organizer Ronald Madeline said the program is a perfect way to get the students interested in learning.

“A little bit of knowledge, a little bit of fun. Today, they are having a lot of fun digging in the sand,” said Madeline. “They are getting a bit of knowledge about the past.”

As an added bonus, each of the young archaeologists were able to take home their bounty – mostly sea shells and little gem stones.
