Weekend of events in Youngstown

Youngstown, OHIO (WYTV) – A weekend full of events is planned in Youngstown, and one of the biggest is Youngstown State University’s Summer Festival of the Arts.

More than 75 artists will be featured at the 16th annual event on and around Youngstown State’s campus. The festival is on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It also includes food vendors as well as music, theater and dance performances.

“We started this with 28 artists and here we are with close to 80 artists, so it has grown in its professionalism, and I am just grateful that the artists keep coming back, and the crowds keep coming back. That is what we need, people to keep coming down to support the artists,” YSU Summer Festival of the Arts coordinator Lori Factor said.

Also happening this weekend is the Downtown Jazz Fest on Saturday night in Youngstown’s Central Square. It features saxophonist Kim Waters. Tickets for the Jazz Fest are $10 and only available at the gate, which opens at 6:30 p.m. It is suggested that you bring a lawn chair for the event.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church’s Summerfest continues Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., then again on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The church is located at 220 N. Walnut St. in Youngstown.

On Sunday at 5 p.m., the Second Sunday Jazz Concert will feature the Phillip K. Jones Trio. It will take place at the Tyler History Center at 325 W. Federal St. in Youngstown.
