Wish granted for Beloit girl battling cancer

ALLIANCE, Ohio (WYTV) – A Beloit girl is fighting for her life and has been for almost two years. But on Saturday, she took a break from thinking about cancer as her family and friends celebrated a special day with her.

It’s every little girl’s dream to be a princess. And if anyone deserves to be treated like one it is 9-year-old Emily Waseman. She’s been battling a very rare brain tumor for two years.

“She is our princess and she has always been our princess,” said Emily’s mother Stefani Waseman.

After eight operations, six weeks of radiation and on her fourth round of chemotherapy, Emily celebrated her birthday as Princess Emily. Thanks to the organization Wishes Can Happen, hundreds of people celebrated with her.

The day included a surprise horse-drawn carriage ride to the “ball.” The Cinderella carriage drove past the historical Glamogran Castle in Alliance and then on to the party at Robertson Heating Supply on West Main Street.

“For what they are going to do for her today, it is a great organization. I appreciate everything they have done,” said Emily’s father Brian Waseman.

It’s a welcome break for the family, because the Wasemans will be heading back to Akron later this month for more tests and to see how Emily is responding to her treatments. Brian Waseman said a recent MRI showed signs of possibly more growth. Even though this is what the family calls their new normal, they are not giving up hope.

“Emily will be here for that cure because we won’t give up,” Stefani Waseman said.
