Dozens sign up for warren bike patrols

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – Bike patrols are ready to go oversee the Western Reserve Greenway bike trail in Warren.

A training meeting was held Friday afternoon for those people who signed up to volunteer to be part of the patrol. About 20 people attended, but Warren Councilman John Brown said there are several more people interested who could not attend Friday’s training because of their work schedules. Another training session will be held on an upcoming weekend for them.

The group of cycling enthusiasts will act as the eyes and ears of the Warren Police Department at different spots along the path.

“The biggest thing is you are not a police agency. We are a liaison so that people know how friendly this town is and people feel safer on the bike path,” Brown said.

The city paid for background checks on people who wanted to be part of the patrol.
