Tressel speaks at Johnson’s “Run for Fun” Camp

Youngstown, OH (WYTV)- For the second straight year, YSU alum Tim Johnson held his “Run for Fun Life and Skills Football Camp” in the Valley. This year’s event took place in the Watson and Tressel training center, and provided plenty of energy and special guests to learn from.

“Ultimately, we all start projects, we all start a play, but how do you finish?,” said Johnson. “The energy that it takes to start and complete a play, all throughout our life. If you learn to finish, I think overall you’ll be a great student, great kid, great athlete.”

That was the message to a record group of campers this year. Kids of all ages ran through drills and games, and heard from guest speaker, YSU President Jim Tressel.

“I want these young people to be dreaming about coming to school here and doing great things with their opportunities and their blessings,” said Tressel. “We talked to them a lot about being grateful. So many opportunities they have, so they have to do everything that they do, very, very well.”

President Tressel encouraged the kids to stay focused, and give back….just like some of the greats in YSU history.

“Youngstown has done nothing but just been great to me in my life,” said former YSU running back Jamaine Cook. “This is truly my second home, so it’s great to come back and be able to give back to the kids and teach them what football is all about. Because, football is a sport but it also teaches them values and morals and things they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

“Our mission here at Youngstown State is to provide opportunities for young people to become all they can be,” continued Tressel. “And who knows, discover some knowledge that’s never been discovered before, and do some extraordinary things.”
