Year in Review: Kennedy may have only won two games last fall; however, they were a win or two away from advancing to week eleven. JFK’s schedule is not for the weak at heart. The Eagles almost pulled off a Saturday night opening win over South Range only to fall by 4 points (34-30). In the season finale, Cleveland Central Catholic got by Kennedy (28-20) to make their way into the Division IV playoffs. Those two opponents’ finished with a combined 19-4 record.

During the off-season, JFK hired Jeff Bayuk to replace Dave Pappada as the head coach of the Eagles’ football program. Bayuk brings a wealth of experience to the position. He has won 155 games at Canfield, Hubbard and Campbell. His teams’ have made 7 appearances in the post-season while Bayuk was named the Mahoning Valley’s Coach of the Year 14 times.

The Eagles will look to make their 9th trip to week eleven since 2001 this fall. The season begins at South Range on Friday, August 29.

3 Things to Watch in Warren
Roscoe returns.
Senior signal caller Michael Roscoe scored 19 total touchdowns while throwing for 1519 yards and rushing for another 722. Roscoe returns with a year under his belt since replacing Dominic Naples as Kennedy’s starter.

Bayuk-factor.
During coach Bayuk’s previous three stints as head coach, he improved upon the win total which each program had compiled the year prior. In 1986, his Canfield team saw their number of victories improve from 0 to 3. In 1991, Hubbard went from a 1-9 team to the Trumbull Athletic Conference champion at 8-2. In 2007, Campbell increased their wins by 1 game. His 16 winning seasons and at least 1 in each location (Canfield – 2, Hubbard – 13, Campbell – 1) speaks for itself.

Scoring took a hit in 2013.
On both sides of the ball, scoring was down (or should I say up) in 2013. The offense saw their average plummet by over 10 points per game (31.4 to 21.1) while the defense allowed a 10 point increase (20.0 to 30.1).
