Hanni withdraws from Mahoning judge race

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Boardman attorney Mark Hanni has withdrawn as a write-in candidate for the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge’s race.

Hanni withdrew his name at the Mahoning County Board of Elections on Friday, citing personal and family reasons.

“I can’t give 100 percent to the campaign at this time and I do not think it is fair to run without giving it my all,” Hanni said in a telephone interview.

He also said withdrawing now gives the Democratic party a chance to replace him as the party’s nominee.

The Republican candidate is incumbent Maureen Sweeney.

Hanni previously threw his name in the ring for the Court of Appeals seat, but later withdrew in favor of the Common Pleas race.
