Second person charged in Ellwood City shooting

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (WYTV) – Authorities charged a New Castle woman, who turned herself in Tuesday, in connection with a July 20 shooting in Ellwood City.

Authorities charged Jessica Jackson with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, believing she shot at and injured Rashund Smith, 34, during the incident.

Police arrested Jeffrey Sack Jr., 22, on July 22 in connection with the same incident, in which Thomas Paris, 43, died, in addition to the injuries of Smith and Jackson herself.

According to a police report, the Pennsylvania State Police and Ellwood City Police responded to the shooting at the Walnut Ridge Apartments on Loop Street in Ellwood City on July 20. Authorities found Smith and Jackson at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries and transported both to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

An investigation led police to believe that Sack hit Smith with his vehicle while leaving the scene. Police found Paris dead in a private vehicle, which was taking him away from the scene.

District Judge David Rishel heard Sack’s arraignment, as Sack received charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangering, according to an information release.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
