Sharon stabbing suspect’s mom defends daughter

Theressa Green, mother of sharon stabbing suspect

SHARON, Pa. (WYTV) – The mother of a woman accused in a Sharon stabbing has come to her daughter’s defense.

“My daughter grew up in the church. We are a praying family. And it’s just tragic what happened,” Theressa Green said.

Her daughter, Erica Boatright, 30, is accused in the early Tuesday stabbing of her neighbor, Charlotte Alston, 70, in the 300 block of Mesabi Street.

Police said Boatright and Alston got into an argument that preceded the stabbing, but Green said her daughter was defending herself.

“My daughter don’t go looking for a fight, but if you come after her, she will fight you and she will defend herself,” Green said.

Rosanne Freeman, Alston’s neighbor, rushed to her side when she heard Alston’s cries for help.

“She hollered my name, she said ‘Rose.’ So I went over there by her and she looked at me and said ‘Rosanne, if something happens to me, don’t let her get away with this’,” Freeman said.

Boatwright turned herself in to police Tuesday night after police issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. She is being held at the Mercer County Jail on $500,000 bond and is due back in court on Aug. 15.

Alston is bring treated for multiple stab wounds and head trauma at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
