Mother of Amish schoolhouse shooter speaks at church

NEW SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – A woman with a unique perspective on tragedy spoke Sunday in New Springfield about finding hope through adversity

Terri Roberts addressed parishioners at New Springfield Church of God and spoke about how she overcame challenging times after her son Charles Roberts walked into a school and shot 11 school girls, leaving 5 dead on October of 2006 in Eastern Pennsylvania.

For Roberts, who has done many speaking events, she has found it her mission to use her story of tragedy to help others who are going through hard times.

“I have found a lot of people want to focus on the darkest day in their life instead of all the good that there is. So through God’s grace, I feel that we can move forward in anything in life no matter how dark our darkest day is,” Roberts said.

Roberts is planning on putting together a documentary to further spread her message of hope through adversity.

Charles Roberts, 32, opened fire inside an Amish schoolhouse in Nickel Mines, Pa. in 2006. He lined the girls against the blackboard, bound their feet and shot them execution-style in the head.

Three of the girls were dead at the scene, two others died later. Six other students were wounded.
