BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – A local non-profit agency will be closing its doors after 30 years in operation.
Directors with the Hands On Volunteer Network in Boardman announced Monday morning that they will be dissolving the organization as of Oct. 1.
The agency helps other non-profit groups find the volunteers they need for various projects throughout the year.
Directors admit advances in internet technology, especially through social media, have led to less demand for the local network’s services.
“It is something that is driven internally for that volunteer. So if you have an affinity for animals, you are immediately going to go to one of the organizations that support animals, or children, or the elderly,” Hands On Volunteer Network Executive Director Maureen Drummond said.
And directors said as fewer non-profits had to rely on the Hands On Volunteer Network, donations started falling off as well. Directors stressed they will fulfill all their existing contracts and all the agency’s bills will be paid before the agency closes.
HOVN has five paid employees and a number of volunteer staff. Directors are working to find positions for those workers elsewhere.
