Steubenville student returns to football field

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (WYTV) — A teen who was found delinquent in the rape of a 16-year-old girl last year is playing football high school football again.

Ma’Lik Richmond returned to Steubenville High School’s “Big Red” football team on Monday.

Richmond was released from an Ohio Juvenile Detention Center in January. His probation officer said he is doing everything to get his life straightened out.

“There’s no law against it that says he can’t play. There’s no OHSA rules that they’d be violating then. I think the boy should be allowed to play. Malik Richmond has done everything the court has asked him since he’s been sentence,” said Jefferson County Chief Probation Officer, Fred Abdalla Jr.

Because Richmond was convicted of felony, he was suspended from Steubenville schools for a year. He must now register as a sex offender every six months for the next 20 years.
