Man buys block in Salem for shopping mall

Courtyard Square mall in Salem

SALEM, Ohio (WYTV) – The Courtyard Square Shopping Mall is now open in a historical block of buildings in downtown Salem.

Owner Scott Cahill said he and his partners originally looked for some historical buildings with architectural significance in Salem. He said the project is part of a renaissance taking place in the city.

The buildings were built by J. Twiggs Brooks in the late 1800s as well as a Shriver in the 1890s. The buildings include a former stable, an old tavern and the building that housed the original telephone exchange in Salem.
