Youngstown, OH (WYTV)- Junior Dante Nania will be the starting quarterback for Youngstown State in their opener on the road against Illinois. Coach Eric Wolford announced the decision Monday morning at practice.
Nania doesn’t bring a ton of collegiate game experience to the table, but he does limit turnovers and manages the game well, the exact reason Coach Wolford is going with the Pittsburgh area native.
“That’s all he needs to do. Don’t turn the ball over. We have enough weapons around you on offense that you just gotta manage the football game,” said Wolford Monday.
“You know it was hard work all spring preparing to get this job, and it’s really stress relief,” says Nania.
True freshman Hunter Wells was named the backup to Nania, beating out redshirt freshman Ricky Davis.
The Penguins will open the season August 30th at Illinois.
