Series Note: The series is now tied at 12 wins apiece. Fitch took their first six meetings (1980-85). Prior to the Falcons’ current three-game win streak, they fell nine times in a row to the Raiders. In those nine losses, Fitch was only able to accumulate 98 points (10.9 avg). In their last three outings against Harding, the Falcons posted a total of 100 points. In Harding’s case, the Raiders scored 26 points in their 2003 win. Over their last three times they’ve played Fitch, Harding has compiled just 17 points.
Last Meeting: The Falcons scored 27-points in the second frame as Fitch went onto win 48-0. Antwan Harris gained 128 yards rushing and a touchdown for Fitch. The Falcon offense compiled nearly 400 yards of total offense while the defense held Harding to less than 70 for the game.
October 24, 2003 – Harding 26 Fitch 14
Jon Richardson led Harding’s rushing attack with 134 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Raiders rallied to score the game’s final 13 points to win, 26-14. Richardson replaced the injured Delbert Ferguson and Richard Davis in Harding’s backfield. Harding’s defense held Fitch to just 167 total yards of offense.
Since 2005, the Raiders have only been able to secure back-to-back winning seasons once. In 2009, Harding finished 6-3-1 as they followed up that campaign with an 8-3 year. During the past nine seasons, the Raiders have managed to notch a winning percentage of 53.8%…Harding has lost their last three season openers by a combined score of 100-17.
Phil Annarella is seeking his 50th win as the head football coach at Fitch. The Falcons have won their last 11 season openers…Fitch is one of 9 area teams to post a winning season over the course of the last five years.
Both schools will join the All-American Conference’s Gold Division next fall.
