Series Note: This will mark just the second meeting between the Panthers and the Cardinals.

Last Meeting: Deandre Scott returned the opening kickoff 80 yards to give the Panthers the early lead. Mooney’s Anthony Dermotta answered with a 2-yard run of his own to tie the game up at 7. Fast forward to the second half, a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown by Mark Handel closed Imhotep’s lead to 8 (29-21). However, the Panthers went onto win – 49-21. Imhotep outgained Mooney on the ground, 351-156.

Noteworthy
Cardinal Mooney has been victorious in 8 of their last 11 season openers; however, they’ve dropped their last two. Mooney returns their starting quarterback Jon Saadey, who threw for 1,370 yards a year ago, and one of their two 1,000-yard runners from last fall (C.J. Amill, 1277 yards). Coach P.J. Fecko has amassed a 71.6% winning percentage since taking over the program in 2000.

Since coach Albie Crosby took over the reigns as the Panthers’ head coach in 2012. Imhotep has played 30 games and within that time frame, the offense has racked up 40-points or more 21 times, the defense has shut out their opponents 10 times and they’ve held the opposition to single digits 20 times.

The list of Imohtep’s alumni to go onto play Division I football in college is going to grow even longer after this senior class graduates next spring. Wideout D.J. Moore has already committed to Maryland while running back Nasir Bonner already has received offers from Arizona State, Indiana, Purdue, Rutgers, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Outside linebacker Shaquille Jones has also been offered by Cincinnati, Illinois, Massachusetts and Buffalo. Among the juniors on the squad, running back Tyliek Raynor (offered by Temple and Buffalo) and tight end Naseir Upshur (offered by Arizona, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Pitt, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin) have been contacted by many schools who’d love to have their services.
