Big 22 preseason contenders

For the ninth straight year, our Big 22 contest is in full swing. Well over one-hundred of the top high school football players from every local school in the area have already been nominated. Tonight we present thirty of those nominees. They are preseason contenders for our Big 22.

We begin with one of the most talent rich teams in the state.  Hubbard has two Big-Ten tailbacks in Ohio State recruit George Hill, and Michigan State commit and reigning Big 22 Player of the Year L.J. Scott.  The Eagles will also have West Virginia lineman Matt Jones leading the way upfront.

The All-American Conference will be well respresented with Poland quarterback Dom Petrony… Liberty sophomore sensation Lynn Bowden… Lakeview’s dual threat quarterback Angelo Marino… and Howland’s pair of playmakers…senior Jaquore Marrs, and sophomore Victor Williams.

South Range tailback Joe Alessi made the Big 22 last year. This season he may bring few from the ITCL with him… Western Reserve wideout Joe Falasca… Springfield senior Ryan Kohler… and McDonald big man Cameron Ifft are all early contenders.

Warren Harding has couple of kids to watch in running back Keemari Murry, and Iowa bound lineman James Daniels. Brookfield will lean on junior quarterback Augustus Necastro.
Boardman’s got a D1 recruit in linebacker Evan Croutch… while Fitch has a couple of Big 22 veterans in quarterback Antwan Harris and Pitt tailback Darrin Hall.

The private schools are always brimming with big names like Kennedy senior QB Michael Roscoe, and Ursuline junior tailback Kimauni Johnson… Mooney will lead the way though… with the likes of Kentucky recruit Jordan Jones, big play tailback CJ Amill, and future YSU kicker Zak Kennedy.

Mercer quarterback Logan Clarke made the Big 22 last year… but Hickory’s had a kid on our list 3 years running… junior wideout Andrew Pryts might make it 4.

West Middlsex quarterback Trey Staunch will lead the Big Reds this year… but the backs in District Ten may steal the show… Eric Lucich topped a thousand yards last year… Tyler Wansack returns as Sharpsville’s leading rusher… Marquis Spence will headline Lakeview’s ground game… and Mike Millero will try and break the rushing record at Reynolds.

We’ll be taking Big 22 nominations throughout the season.  Just go to WYTV.com, and click on Big 22 under the sports tab.
