Girard rallies past Niles in thriller

NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Christian Bello connected with Collin Cramer on a 64-yard pass, and later plunged in for the game-winning touchdown, as Girard rallied past Niles 14-7 at Bo Rein Stadium.

Bello completed 3-12 passes for 116 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.  He also rushed for 72 yards in the victory.

The Red Dragons got on the board in the second quarter when Corey Hayes electrified the home crowd with an impressive 68-yard scoring scamper, giving the Red Dragons a 7-0 lead.  Hayes rushed for 124 yards on the night.  Niles Quarterback Tyler Srbinovich added 62 yards on the ground.

It would stay that way until the fourth quarter, when Girard’s Bello connected with Jake Ryser on a 49-yard screen pass for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 apiece.

Later in the fourth, Niles drove down to the two-yard line, but turned it over on a fumbled snap.

Shortly thereafter, Bello hit Cramer to set up the game-winner to seal the victory for the Indians.

Girard (1-0) will face Hubbard in week two, while Niles (0-1) will visit West Branch,
