Good grades pays off for some Youngstown children

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — Excelling in the classroom paid off for 35 children at the Boys and Girls Club in Youngstown.

The children were given a free bike for successfully completing the Club’s Great to Greatness academic program. The students needed to improve their grades in two classes and attend studying sessions three times a week. Kristen and Chris Jaskiewicz, of Girard donated the bikes. One Youngstown mother is grateful for everything the Boys and Girls Club has done for her daughter.

“I really appreciate the Boys and Girls Club for giving us parenting, helping us with their homework. Even lunches. All of that just helping with the children period,” said Yolanda Alvarado, of Youngstown.

Besides the free bikes, the children were also rewarded for their improving grades with a day at Cedar Point plus trips to a Cavs and Indians game.
