Strong half leads Howland

Cortland, Ohio (WYTV) – Howland pulled away in the second half, defeating the host Lakeview Bulldogs 31-24.

The Bulldogs got on the board first on a four yard touchdown run by Nick Boldt, making it 7-0.

But, the Tigers answered right back on a 99 yard kick return for a touchdown by Victor Williams, tying things up.

Later in the half, a fake field goal by the Bulldogs earned Lakeview a new set of downs and a shot at the endzone. From the one yard line, Michael Mannella punched it in for the lead, 14-7.

In the second quarter, Howland’s Tyriq Ellis scored from one yard out, evening the score at 14 a piece.

The Tigers would break the tie before halftime on a Williams to Austin Baker 36 yard touchdown pass, sending Howland into the half with the 21-14 lead.

In the third quarter, the Tigers’ Ellis found the endzone again from one yard out to push the lead to 28-14.

The Bulldogs continued to fight, but Howland proved to be too much, winning 31-24.

Howland (2-1) will travel to Canfield next week.

Lakeview (1-2) heads to Newton Falls in week four.
