Western Reserve stays unbeaten

North Lima, Ohio (WYTV) – A battle between two of the area’s top teams earned its distinction as the High School Game of the Week, as Western Reserve held on to defeat South Range 20-14.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils’ Sophomore Wyatt Larimer needed only one hand to haul in a 21 yard touchdown pass, putting Western Reserve up 6-0.

In the second quarter, Western Reserve quarterback John Clegg called his own name from one yard out, pushing the Blue Devil lead to two scores, 13-0.

But, the Raiders would answer right back. Star running back Joe Alessi closed the gap on a 75 yard touchdown run with 5:26 remaining in the half, shrinking the lead to 13-7.

Then, with only seconds remaining in the first half, the Blue Devils struck again. Larimer, for the second time, found the endzone on a 58 yard touchdown catch. Sending Western Reserve into the locker room with a 20-7 lead.

With 7:55 remaining in the third quarter, it was Alessi once again, this time from 11 yards out, getting the Raiders back within a score, but that was as close as it would get as Western Reserve held on to win 20-14.

South Range (2-1) will travel to Lisbon next week.
