Cashland robbery suspect indicted

Tracking device nabs Cashland robber

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) — A robbery suspect who was caught last month after police used a tracking device hidden in the stolen cash was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.

Lesean Edge, 28, of Niles, was indicted on two counts of aggravated robbery, both with firearms specifications, which would automatically add three years to his sentence if he is convicted. He is being held at the Mahoning County Jail on a $60,000 bond.

Youngstown police said Edge went into Cashland on Midlothian Boulevard on Aug. 26 and headed for the TV section. He didn’t want help from employees but then approached the counter asking questions about a loan. That’s when he showed a gun and told three employees to give him money, according to a police report.

The stack of cash the employees gave Edge had a tracking device in it and police said they used it to track Edge’s rental car onto Interstate 680, where he was pulled over and arrested. Police said they found Cashland property and the firearm used in the robbery in the vehicle.

According to court records, Edge was caught shoplifting at the Walmart in Boardman in February 2013 and he pleaded guilty in April 2013 to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct. He was placed on six months probation and was given 16 hours of community service, court records show.

Court records show he violated his probation in July 2013 and had an active warrant for failing to appear on a probation violation hearing when he was arrested in August. He has a hearing on the probation violation on Oct. 16. No court date has been set for the robbery charges.
