AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Cortland man was among a host of winners at the new Austintown racino on its first two days of operation.
Joseph Mastello, 58, won a $20,000 jackpot Thursday afternoon on a $25 denomination Double Strike game, according to public relations director Madeline Caldwell.
Opening day was a good one for the house and players who made a trip to the Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course for its grand opening Wednesday.
Figures released Thursday by Penn National Gaming indicate the new racino paid out $85,000 in winnings from the time the doors first opened Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, which is what the industry refers to as the “end of gaming day.”
That averages out to $100 in payouts on every one of the 850 video lottery terminals at the facility. The company says it saw high volume on its VLTs into the early morning hours.
At one point Wednesday, all but one of the machines was in play at the same time.
Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, which opened Aug. 28, recorded nearly $1.9 million in net winnings during the four days it was open in August.
The racetrack and gaming palace also reported it took in an average of $466 per slot machine per day, the highest total among the state six racinos.
