Election board approves Youngstown ward issue for ballot

Mahoning County Board of Elections

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV)– The Mahoning County Board of Elections voted Thursday to approve an issue to appear on the November ballot that if passed would reduce the number wards in the city of Youngstown.

Council members recently sent two separate charter measures to the Board of Elections, one was legislative action by council members, the other was a petition driven movement. Both call for reducing the number wards in the city from seven to five.

The Mahoning County Board of Elections, comprised of two Democrats and two Republicans, voted to approve the issue for the ballot.

“Basically, they were two separate requests to do the same thing,” said Board Member Mark Munroe.

Board members also adopted new directives from the Ohio Secretary of State outlining in-person early voting for all 88-local county election Boards in Ohio.

Early voting will begin this year on September 30. For more information, click here.
