STRUTHERS, Ohio (WYTV) – A corrections officer with the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown was arrested and charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Struthers police and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced the arrest Thursday. Christopher George, 44, was taken into custody Wednesday by Struthers police officers and agents with the Attorney General’s Crime Against Children Unit.
George is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a child under the age of 15 who was a family acquaintance.
“Our investigation found that this defendant was in a position of trust, which allowed him to victimize the child on more than one occasion,” said Struthers Police Detective Jeffrey Lewis. “This case is an example of state and local law enforcement combining resources to protect Ohio’s youth.”
Ohio State Penitentiary Public Information Officer Laura Gardner said George had been employed as a corrections officer for “quite some time” and that he resigned his position Thursday morning.
George is currently in the custody of the Mahoning County Jail.
The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
