Student Athlete: Cameron Ifft

MCDONALD, Ohio (WYTV) – The McDonald football team is rolling….undefeated through the first three weeks of the season. The Blue Devils early-season success is due in large part to Senior Cameron Ifft. He is captain of the McDonald football team, and a First Team All-Conference player each of the last two years. But individual accolades are not his focus, Ifft is a team player.

“I mean I’d like to see us win them all. I mean that’s the goal right now,” said Ifft. “We’re 3-0 right now with 7 more to go. So I’m just hoping we can win ’em all, and see what we can do in the playoffs.”

There’s more than just football. Ifft is also a two-time, First Team, All-League standout in baseball, and will graduate with eight varsity letters. And family, is a big reason for his success at McDonald. Both of his parents are teachers.

“Everytime you don’t get a good grade on a test, they’re on you. Always on you asking did you do your homework, are you studying. But I mean there’s benefits to it,” he added.

Ifft is a straight-A student. He ranks in the top ten of his Senior class, and carries a 3.95 GPA. In fact, the only thing keeping him from perfect 4.0, was a “B” that he received in the 8th grade.

“Yea it bothers me a little bit, but it kind of takes the pressure off,” admitted Ifft. “I mean I missed it by a tenth of a percent or something.”

Success on the field, and the classroom… comes down to one simple philosophy.

“Just always do your best at whatever you do. if you’re going to do something, you better give a 100 percent, you better work as hard as you can at it… because why would you do something unless you weren’t going to be the best you can possibly be,” Ifft said.
