YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A stolen car launched a a water-borne search and rescue mission on the west side on Thursday.
Police officers and firefighters were called to the banks of the Mahoning River off Salt Springs road around 2:45 p.m. They found a submerged car in the water and searched to see if anyone was trapped inside.
No one was found, but Youngstown Fire Chief John O’Neill said it’s standard procedure to search for bodies in situations like this.
“We’ll spend a little bit of time on the river just to be sure. But we have no reason right now to believe anyone is in there,” O’Neill said.
The car was reported stolen on the west side Thursday morning.
