Another Raider Regatta in the books for South Range

North Lima, Ohio (WYTV) –  The 17th annual Raider Regatta took place Monday in North Lima.

Twenty six boats built by about 117 sophomores at South Range High School raced across the reservoir behind the football stadium.

Constructed of only cardboard and duct tape, each one had its own unique flare. English teacher Laura Elder said this is a way to take across the board curriculum out of the classroom and in to a fun setting.

“This is important because it goes across the curriculum. It is team building and our students need to be able to work successfully in a team to create something that they have no idea what it is going to be before it is finished,” Elder said.

Plans are already in the works for the regatta’s 18th installment. Elder said it will be held near the end of September or early October 2015.
