Big 22 Update: Kohler sets school records

Youngstown, Ohio (WYTV)- Week 5 saw five of our Big 22 contenders combine for over 15 hundred yards on the ground and 25 touchdowns.
For one, it was extra special. Springfield Local’s Ryan Kohler set two school records, one for rushing yards, racking up 408 yards on the ground, and for touchdowns, reaching the end zone 8 times.

“It was always something I was looking forward to, I never thought the day would come,” says Kohler on setting the school record.

“It was a great feeling to actually get it. We practiced so hard this week, the hardest we ever have. The line put in the time and there were holes so big that it just made my life easy.”

Kohler wasn’t the only ITCL running back to have a huge week. Once again South Range’s Joe Alessi put up unbelievable numbers rushing for 307 yards and scoring 5 times. But he was bested by Crestview’s Jesse Best. The senior ran for 315 yards, added 83 yards through the air and scored 6 times.

“I wasn’t really thinking about the performance, it was about the game,” said Best on his big day against South Range.

“When Porter told me how many yards I had I had no idea. If you would have asked me I would have guessed about 100. But it always feels good especially against a rival like South Range. Feast on success, the more you get the more you want it. Great feeling, but we just have to make sure we keep the foot on the gas.”

If we are talking about our Big 22, you have to mention the reigning Big 22 player of the year in Ohio L.J. Scott. Scott rushed for nearly 300 yards and scored 4 times in Hubbard’s statement win over Poland. He wasn’t the only Eagle flying high against the bulldogs. His teammate George Hill also shined in the spotlight of our game of the week. Hill ran for just under 200 yards and was able to find the end zone twice.
