September 22, 2006 – McDonald 35 Western Reserve 28
…McDonald built a 28-0 lead in the first half only to escape with a 7-point win (35-28). The Blue Devils’ Matt Firment scored twice in the first half, one on a 77-yard scamper. Firment finished the first half alone with nearly 100 yards on the ground. Late in the second frame, Western Reserve got on the board with a 45-yard toss from Brandon Moherman to Matt Klabell to give the Devils’ life. Moherman led a second half rally which saw him throw for another score (to Nate Lude) and run for two more. In the end, coach Dan Williams’ group registered the win behind Matt Krumpak’s 152 yards passing and 92 yards rushing.
McDonald tallied over 475 yards of total offense in their week five 49-7 victory at Sebring. Coach Dan Williams has seen his group total 35 points or more in all but one of their games this season. They’ve been able to register 98 points compared to 20 in their last two.
The Blue Devils are sporting a 24-3 record over their last 27 games played in October. With a win this week, McDonald clinches their third straight winning season. The Blue Devils have been perfect in their last six road match ups with league opponents. They’ve registered an 8-2 road mark over their last ten contests.
Western Reserve ran for 388 yards, led by Evan Nesbitt’s 232, versus Mineral Ridge this past Friday. Since their week three win over South Range (20-14), the Devils have outscored their opposition 93-31. Their offense has been, once again, impressive totaling 37 points or more in four of their five games.
Reserve has posted victories in each of their last 13 games in the month of October. With a win this Friday, the Blue Devils will clinch 9th straight winning season. Reserve has won ten in a row at home and they’ve been a perfect 10-0 in their last ten tries at home against league opponents.
