Brookfield students pack lunches for charity

BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) — Brookfield High School students are packing more than an average school lunch because they are for a special cause.

“The mission of the Brookfield Backpack Charitable Fund is to provide food to the youngest in our community, our elementary school kids, to bridge that weekend meal gap,” said organization founder Tracy Plyler.

Teaming up with the Brookfield School District and the Second Harvest Food Bank, volunteers like Alexandria Olek and her fellow classmates said that by taking a few moments out of their evening, they are helping change a child’s life.

“Yes, it’s deffinitly a difference experince, but I think the change is going to be worth it. I mean it’s going to be a great change to see all these people coming out here for the same cause and just for the students,” Olek said.

Non-perishable items like chips, juice boxes and canned spaghetti were added to each bag.

“It feels great, any chance I get to help students is just outstanding. I love the fact that I get to help people and make lives better,” said student Brian Hunter Jr.

“We are striving to get more kids next year but we are very happy to get started off this year with 25 kids in our program,” Plyler said.

The group will be meeting once every month and though they consist of just a few as of now, these volunteers plan to grow larger and do more good for their community.
