Lieutenant Brian Butler said the officer fired four shots during the incident.

“The suspect did give a statement indicating that he pointed his gun, which was loaded, at the officer,” Butler said.“The suspect did not have an opportunity to shoot at the officer. The officer fired four times, missed the suspect and struck the house.”

Investigators said their preliminary review of the case suggests the officer’s firing of his gun was justified.

“We want to do a complete and thorough investigation. Look at all the facts and circumstances before we make a determination either way,” Butler said.

According to a police report, Bright greeted officers on the steps of the house and pulled a handgun from a hoodie he was wearing. Police said he was pointing the gun at them when the officer fired his weapon.

Bright went into the house and officers were able to coax him out a short time later. No one was hurt in the incident. Bright was arrested at the scene and taken in without incident.

He remains at the Mahoning County Jail and is due in court Friday morning.
