BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The worst of the U.S. Route 224 bridge construction is over, which means businesses in the construction zone are breathing a sigh of relief.
“It is like a normal Friday night so far and we will look forward to the big football boost later on after the games,” Inner Circle Pizza manager Kelly Wolford said early Friday evening.
She said business was suffering because of the construction on Route 224.
“It was a little quieter than we wanted it to be. We suffered a decline for the second summer in a row,” Wolford said.
The owner of El Vallarta, which is right next door, also said he saw a decline in business during construction.
“Our first two months were great and then when the construction started, it was down significantly,” Juan Vazquez said.
Both are happy things are back to normal, but Wolford is still suspicious of the large barrels still sitting along the side of the road.
“I am just looking forward to seeing them all disappear,” Wolford said.
The Ohio Department of Transportation said the construction crews will be back again next week to finish paving work. After that, the orange barrels will be gone for good.
